tawlet, lebanon:

One of the reasons we really wanted to visit Lebanon was our love of it’s food. We LOVE Lebanese food and eat it quite regularly back home, making it ourselves and eating out.
So when I read about Tawlet last year in Vogue Living, the article was torn out and stuck with all our other trip research. Along with Bokja, it was a must to visit while we were in Beirut.
Tawlet is restaurant with a really cool concept – everyday it opens for a buffet  lunch with a different chef/producer creating their own menu and cooking their take on Lebanese cuisine. This allows for variations on dishes and styles that are found in differing parts of the country.

Our meal at Tawlet was probably our favourite out of our time in Lebanon – in fact I can still taste it now... it was amazing.  We got there a little early to ensure we got a table and so I could get some photos. It’s also a really cool interior, simple, light and creative. The dining room soon filled with Beirut’s young hip and fashionable, old ladies catching up, families and even business people. It was quite a mix. I can’t tell you exactly what we had unfortunately, except there were a lot of options and it was incredible! I liked that we got to try new dishes plus variations on what we had experienced already.

So the moral of this post is: if in Beirut, you MUST dine at Tawlet.

Next: our Lebanon wrap up.

  1. This looks like such an original place. The buffet sounds like a fantastic idea. More restaurants should do this. I've never even heard of a Lebanese restaurant... how is it that you guys have it so often at home?
